“Virtual Power Plants, Real Benefits” with RMI
October 24, 2023 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) are generally considered to be a connected aggregation of distributed energy resources that can be collectively managed to benefit grid reliability, lower power costs, and maximize behind the meter investments. VPPs are seen as a pathway to accelerate adoption of distributed renewable energy, electric vehicles, demand side management, energy storage, and other distributed technologies to accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy. We’ll be joined by Kevin Brehm of the Rocky Mountain institute who leads their Virtual Power Plant Partnership (VP3) initiative.
Kevin will discuss what VPPs are and how they work to enhance the benefits of distributed energy resources (DERs) to benefit of all stakeholders in our energy system. He’ll also cover current success stories and the opportunity for growth with the right market and policy structures in place. He’ll draw insight from the VP3 initiative, DOE VPP Lift Off Report, the recent Brattle Group report Real Reliability: The Value of Virtual Power.
