Frack of the State, Frack of the Climate Rally
January 17 @ 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
As the Colorado Legislature opens on January 9 and Gov. Polis prepares his State of the State speech for January 17, we must make it clear that our elected officials need to stop the permitting of more dangerous oil and gas drilling and fracking projects that harm our health, climate, air, and water. The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) has approved over 5600 new oil and gas wells since Gov. Polis took office, including permits for over 1,000 fracking wells in the last few months alone, despite the objections of community members and leaders in impacted communities. These permits are especially negligent of the needs of Black, Latino, and Indigenous people in Aurora and Weld County who are already facing multiple sources of air pollution and the consequent health effects. Join us at the State Capitol during Gov. Polis’ State of the State Address to tell him and the Colorado Legislature that the oil and gas wars are NOT OVER and we want to see a phase out of permitting for oil and gas wells by 2030 and a just transition to a clean renewable energy future. We’ll urge our leaders and community members to sign onto this related support letter: https://secure.ngpvan.com/ftaIfFXGnESVMdU08tbPAg2. (Please share it widely!)
Please join us at the West Steps of the State Capitol building at 10:45 am to prepare for an 11 am start. We plan on having powerful speakers, artwork, public theater and joining voices to make our message heard.
