On June 23rd the minority party prevented the For the People Act from getting to the Senate floor for discussion. 

We expected this! Now isn’t the time to give up! We put a new government in power to enact free and fair elections into law. Senator Schumer still plans to bring this legislation to the floor for a vote in July.

What to do? 

SHOW UP June 28th–the first day of Senate Recess–at Hickenloopers and Bennet’s offices in support of voting rights and against the filibuster (or participate virtually)

In Colorado on June 28th from 11:30 to 12:30 (2:00 to 4:00 in Durango), we’re visiting all 13 of our Senate offices at once to show Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper that we’re grateful they both sponsored S.1. and we’ll have their backs as they make sure-–by eliminating the filibuster–that the bill passes NOW, while we have time to save the 2022 elections. We’ll display this letter, take photos, tell stories and, where possible, meet with Senate staff.

The “For the People Act” is the bill that stops voter suppression and gerrymandering, gets dark money out of politics and puts ethical requirements back in. 

This action is part of a large national coalition to hold events during the Deadline for Democracy Recess. We are advocating FOR Democracy Reform and AGAINST the Filibuster.
