Coming up exactly one week from now, Wednesday July 16, is the deadline to submit your public comments in support of a rulemaking request at the Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission (ECMC).

Thanks to a petition by WildEarth Guardians, 350 Colorado, and a coalition of public health, environmental justice, and climate advocacy groups, the ECMC is considering whether to hold a rulemaking hearing to use the Social Cost of Carbon (SCC), a science backed tool that measures the economic and public health impact of carbon emissions, to hold oil and gas operators accountable for their climate pollution. This is a crucial and necessary step to demand real climate oversight in Colorado’s oil and gas permitting process. You can send in a written comment in support of this rulemaking request by July 16. For more information and the link to submit see this toolkit. And save the date, July 30, for the virtual hearing. (exact time of hearing and zoom link to come soon).
