The Colorado legislature passed HB25-1040 on Friday, March 14th and sent it to the Governor’s desk. If he signs, the bill will give “clean energy” status to nuclear power in Colorado.
We also encourage you to call Gov. Polis’ office at (303) 866-2471, and ask him to veto the bill. Sample script:
“Governor Polis, please veto HB25-1040. Nuclear power should not be giving “clean energy” status in Colorado. Nuclear reactors use and produce hazardous radioactive materials that can and do contaminate our air, water, and land, threatening human health for decades to come. Labeling nuclear power as “clean energy” would divert resources from safe, renewable climate solutions like wind and solar. Uranium mining and transport, potential reactor meltdowns, and the radioactive waste produced by nuclear power can cause cancer and other serious health conditions. The high cost of nuclear power also puts ratepayers and taxpayers at unacceptable financial risk. Please veto HB25-1040.”
